Residential Garage Doors

Residential garage doors need to be secure, functional and of course look good. Single panel garage doors used to be the most common garage door used on residential homes. This style of garage door takes up more room to open and close and since it is in one big piece, more expensive to repair. Now sectional garage doors have become the preferred style for homes. This is because it uses less space and can be repaired in sections.

There are many different styles nowadays and custom garage doors have become more affordable. With different materials it is easy to match the look of the house. Windows can be designed into the sections and can be almost any shape and size. The panels can also be different patterns and sizes. If it can move along a track, then it can be done.

Sectional Garage Doors

Sectional doors are made of separate panels connected by hinges.  Usually made up of three to eight sections. They move up and down tract which is fixed to the door frame and roof.  This allow the door to move up and along the ceiling.  Sectional doors require no space outside of the door o open. Cars outside the garage can park very close to the door.  Damaged panel can be replace individually to lower repair costs.  These doors are very secure.

Single Panel Garage Doors

A single panel garage door comes in one large piece that slides up into the space above the car once opened. Typically, single panel garage doors are hung on a strong hinge system attached to the jamb instead of on overhead tracks. This type of garage door is typically found on older homes or newer homes with a vintage look.  Most of these have been replaced by sectional doors.  Single garage doors costs less and have less working parts.

Roll Up Garage Doors

Roll up garage doors are of standard design and used for commercial and warehouse use.  These roll up garage doors are designed for high performance and can be easily customized to size.  This type of door will withstand heavy usage and if built without springs they shouldn’t rust, corrode or freeze. Therefore, these types of garage doors are often a little more costly.  The down side is these doors cannot easily maintained or repaired and the entire door will need to be replaced.

Garage Door Openers

Garage door openers are motorized devices that open and close a garage door and is controlled by switches on the wall and remotes.  Most of the handheld radio remotes, operate the door from a short distance. These remotes sometimes stop working and need to be replaced.

The most common reason for a remote to stop working is a dead battery.  However, if all of the garage door remotes stop at the same time then most likely the antenna for the garage door is not attached correctly. Or the garage door opener needs to be reset and the remotes reprogrammed.
